You can enter data - now let's make you faster! Today we learn just 5 shortcuts that will make Excel feel natural.
Today's 15-Minute Lesson: Essential Shortcuts
Think of these shortcuts like learning to use the whiteboard markers efficiently - small changes that save lots of time.
The Big 5 Shortcuts (Learn These by Heart):
Ctrl + Z = Undo (your best friend!)
Ctrl + S = Save your work
F2 = Edit without deleting everything
Delete = Clear a cell
Ctrl + Home = Jump back to A1 instantly
Today's Practice: Improve Yesterday's List (10 minutes)
Using your class list from yesterday:
Practice 1: Safe Editing (3 minutes)
Click on any student name
Press F2 (cursor appears in the cell)
Use arrow keys to move within the text
Change just the first name
Press Enter to confirm
Practice 2: The Undo Lifesaver (2 minutes)
Click on a cell with data
Press Delete (oops, it's gone!)
Press Ctrl + Z (it's back!)
Try this a few times - get comfortable with Undo
Practice 3: Adding More Information (5 minutes)
Click on C1
Type: Contact Number
Add phone numbers for your students:
Use format: 082-555-0001, 083-555-0002, etc.
Don't worry about real numbers - just practice the pattern
Beginner-Friendly Navigation Tips:
Getting Lost? Use Ctrl + Home
No matter where you are in Excel, Ctrl + Home takes you back to A1
Think of it as your "home base"
Making Mistakes? Use Ctrl + Z
Deleted something by accident? Ctrl + Z
Typed in wrong cell? Ctrl + Z
Excel did something weird? Ctrl + Z
Want to Edit, Not Replace?
Click the cell, then press F2
Now you can edit the text instead of starting over
Save Your Work (Important!):
Press Ctrl + S after every few changes
Excel doesn't save automatically unless you tell it to
Better safe than sorry!
Common Beginner Scenarios:
"I clicked somewhere and now I'm lost!" → Press Ctrl + Home to get back to the top
"I deleted everything by accident!" → Press Ctrl + Z immediately to undo
"I want to change one word, not the whole cell!" → Click the cell, press F2, then edit
"Should I save this?" → Yes! Press Ctrl + S every few minutes
Today's Success Check:
[ ] I can undo mistakes with Ctrl + Z
[ ] I can edit cells with F2 instead of retyping
[ ] I can save my work with Ctrl + S
[ ] I can get back to A1 with Ctrl + Home
[ ] I'm feeling more confident with Excel
